2014/15 Theme Discussion

Post by Octan on 10/2/2013, 10:11 pm

To start off speculation for the new year, we have set 21021 Marina Bay Sands. The Marina Bay sands is a resort in Singapor, costing 8 billion to build, looking at real pictures it is incredibility impressive. But we can see LEGO is going much more detailed with Architecture, rather than the form studies of earlier monochrome sets. Is this due to the suspected departure of the original AFOL designer?

Valid Sunday October 6 through Saturday October 12, Toys R Us has several promotions running. Firstly, there is a Buy One, Get One 40% Off deal on ALL LEGO sets. And by ALL, Toys R Us is excluding Chima, Technic, Mindstorms and likely anything they consider a "Hot Deal" or "Hard to Find." Though it is certainly more difficult these days to find a good deal at TRU, it is not impossible. Do your best to find sets with as little mark-up as possible, and then pair them with similarly priced sets to maximize your savings.

Additionally this week, you will receive a Toys R Us exclusive minifigure set with ANY LEGO construction or LEGO board game purchase of $60 or more. Lastly, Toys R Us continues to offer 10% Back on Toy Purchases made through October for Rewards "R" Us members. The "rebate" is capped at $100 and will be emailed to you as a promotional gift card in mid-November. "Rewards" dollars will apparently continue to accrue as well.

Don't forget that Toys R Us (like Target) is also now price matching most online prices in store, including their own. I will probably try it myself this month with Jabba's Palace (9516) and/or Constitution Train Chase (79111) via Amazon. I imagine the rebates and Rewards dollars will still accumulate and also hope to receive that week's giveaway.
This news, from Brickset, should prove to be very pleasing to our pockets!

Dutch site 2ttoys.nl has published set details and euro prices for the LEGO Movie sets, due for release next year.

The sets are:

70800 Escape Glider
70801 Melting Room
70802 Pursuit
70803 Fool Palace
70804 Ice machine
70805 Waste Crusher
70806 Castle Cavalry
70807 Metal Beard’s Duel
70808 Super Motor Pursuit
70809 Lord Business’ Hideout
There are no new images unfortunately, the only LEGO Movie set we have an image for is still 70808 (pictured).

The names are a bit cryptic aren't they, though the fact that they have been translated from Dutch by Google probably doesn't help!

These leaked Simpsons figures were sold on Ebay last night for $54(USD), many our reporting that these are fakes, although the seller does appear to have a link to the LEGO factory in Mexico. These collectable figures tend to be made in factories such as this.

Back in August you will remember that some of the 2014 LEGO The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug sets name's and probable price points were unearthed. There was discussion on these sets in our very own Forum (here) as well as on other LEGO news, and resource websites.

Well now these aforementioned sets have been seen complete with images on eBay Germany. Although the auction has ended the images are now out in the wild and can be seen on the Brickset Flickr stream. The story has already broken over at thebrickfan.com

The 3 sets there are now images for are as follows:

Dol Guldur Ambush (79011)
Mirkwood Elf Army (79012)
Dol Guldur Battle (79014)

The latest brand store brochure confirms that 5001709 Clone Trooper Lieutenant will be available in the UK, and probably the rest of Europe, at the start of November, when you spend £50 on Star Wars sets.

Thanks James Lego for the news.

The results of THREE Cuusoo review panels have just been announced: to cut to the chase, Pete Reid's Exo-Suit will be next Cuusoo model (after the Mars rover), and will be available mid-2014. The Landrover is still being evaluated. Portals 2, Purdue Pete, Zelda, the Tumbler, Andy the Android, Space Troopers, mini shops and others have all been rejected.

Congratulations Pete: to fight off all that competition is fantastic -- and with a non-licensed model, too! I hope the 'professional designers' do it justice!

This vehicle called 'Container Truck' by LEGO, but which looks more like a skip lorry to me, is featured in a PDF of a Power Functions brochure uploaded to the LEGO server today.

I've a soft spot for Technic 'utility vehicles' so this looks to be right up my street. Launch is believed to be January, so probably just before Christmas in the USA.

Thanks Brickbuilder for the news.

Here is a bit of news for fans of LEGO Architecture, it comes from a Bon Marché PDF and it is about the official launch of new LEGO Architecture set the Eiffel Tower. The set is due to be officially released January 2014.

A reproduction of more than 40,000 pieces of the Eiffel Tower set will be displayed on site at Bon Marché Rive Gauche from December 2nd to 14th and from the 1st of November it will be possible to reserve an early copy of the set that can be collected during the launch event. If you speak French you can read the PDF here.

I must admit it does look better that the recent Big Ben set. What are your views? (Thanks to Hoth Bricks for heads up)

Just a quick reminder that it may be smart to halt your purchases of the 2014 sets has Christmas Eve comes. Traditionally, that night will bring massive sales that will only last for an hour or two. If you can wait to buy your new sets you can pick up some old ones at nearly no cost.

The LEGO Movie sets are out, be sure to order at least the mini figures now as there is no limit to their quantity. Abuse the glitch!  Grin

It looks like this amazing The LEGO Movie Pirate Ship will be hitting the seas this summer! Could this be the set we all have been waiting for to shove some life in this weird, weird theme?

The Simpsons house has been revealed by Eurobricks. Coming in with just over 2500 bricks this set will certainly not be cheap, but it will be a must have for LEGO builders and Simpsons fans alike.
